About

The Armenian Cultural Association at the University of Texas at Austin was founded in the 1970's. The ACA has sponsored numerous social and cultural events, as well as lectures on Armenian history,
art and on the Armenian Genocide. In the autumn of 1993, we hosted Dr. Richard Hovanissian, Professor of History from the University of California, Los Angeles. Ara Sarafian, doctoral candidate at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor lectured on "Archival Sources on the Armenian Genocide" in Spring of 1994. In January of 1995 we hosted a lecture on "Armenian Art and Architecture" by Dr. Lucy Der Manuelian, Professor of Art History at Tufts University in Medford Massachusetts. In October of 1995, together with Hillel and the School of Social Work and Department of Germanic Languages we sponsored a Panel Presentation on "Genocide and Denial," featuring three distinguished experts on the subject. Prof. Vahakn Dadrian, sociologist and author, spoke in April 1996 about "Comparative Aspects of the Holocaust and the Armenian Genocide: A Socio-Historical Perspective." In Spring of 1999, we hosted genocide scholar, Hilmar Kaiser who lectured on "Continuities of Denial." We also, together
with our supporters placed a full page ad in the campus newspaper, the Daily Texan, condeming "Acadmic Corruption in the Academy" with specific departments at UT in mind. In October of 1999, we were honored to host, His Excellency, Vardan Barseghyan, Permanent Representative of the Nagorno Karabagh Republic to the United States.
In addition, we participate in the International Week at UT with a display table every April.
