This is a brief introduction to use the webspace of UT.  Every UT student has 75 Mb webspace as a hard drive on the internet.  You can use it to keep your files, and you can also share it with your friends.  This short introduction is to show you step-by-step to share your homepage or pictures with others.

1. Log on to UT webspace website at http://webspace.utexas.edu.  Use your UT EID to access your own webspace.

2. Create a directory to store your files (click on the "New Directory" Icon). Personally I named it "www"

3. Set the Sharing State of specific directory (click on the icon at the share column of the folder you want to share)

4. Then you will see the "Sharing" setting place.  The default setting is only the owner can read, write, delete and administer the directory.  Click on the "change" at the bottom to continue.

5. Now you can change the setting of the specific directory.  If you want to put your own homepages, you have to give the public permission to "Read" your files in that directory.

6. Then you can upload the files to the webspace.  Personally I prefer to use the "Web Folder" function that we can manage the folders as "windows explores" or "My computer."

7. In this case, the folder we are going to share is

https://webspace.utexas.edu/(UT EID, here "liuc40")/(The folder open to the public, here "www")

Note: You have to put an html file in the folder to make it a personal homepage or picture album.  Personally I used Arles Image Web Page to make the picture album.  Or, you can make your own homepage by common editor, i.e. Microsoft frontpage, Micramedia Dreamweaver. Otherwise, people can only see an ugly folder like this:
