Gujarat Rehabilitation Efforts by TRU The devastating earthquake in Gujarat on January this year has left our brethrens struggling to rebuild their lives in the aftermath. AID launched a disaster relief fund, which was generously contributed to by the AID donors nationwide in US. AID approved funds to TRU to provide rehabilitation efforts in two districts of Gujarat. TRU (The Trust for Reaching the Un-reached), an NGO based in India, through its work, has built expertise in providing health care sustenance in different parts Vadodora. After the earthquake, TRU moved to provide immediate relief measures to Gujarat and continues to build long-term rehabilitation efforts in Gujarat. TRU has launched the following health and rehabilitation efforts in three areas in Gujarat, Khadir(Bhachau Tulika), Balasar(Rapar Tulika) and Maliya(in North Rajkot district) : - Re-instituting primary health work and organize the secondary health care in the above areas over a period of next one year. - Approach to healthy living - consistent health education and prevention of diseases, - Curative help for primary health problems, establishing referral links. - Help restart the government health services. - Provide short-term and long-term shelters for the displaced in the region. Ravishankar Arunachalam, AID volunteer from Austin has worked with TRU for the past few months to review and provide inputs to the project. Ravi also worked with AID San Diego for the approval of the project as per the the policies of AID. Gautham Desai performed on-site visits to TRU on his last visit to India. Harish Sharma has worked with other community organizations in Austin(NAAO) to provide financial support to the project beyond the AID contributions. AID Austin and AID San Diego have sanctioned $15,000 towards the project. NAAO has contributed $16,500 towards the project.
