About AID
Thank you for your interest in AID.
What we do:
We are a voluntary non-profit organisation
started in 1991. Our focus since then has been in tackling the
problems faced in rural India. We believe that problems such
as illiteracy, unemployment, lack of health care, etc are all
interconnected, and should be tackled in an interconnected manner.
AID believes in an holistic approach and supports projects in
literacy, rural development, women's empowerment, Health care,
Vocational training, environment, etc..
We invite or obtain project proposals from
India, review them in detail at our weekly meetings, communicate
with them, very often visit the project site, check the credibility
of the organisation and then provide them financial and non-monetary
assistance.
Salient Features:
1. All of AID's work in the U.S. is done by unpaid
volunteers. All the donations are used in the most efficient
manner towards AID's mission.
2. We monitor our projects regularly through volunteer
visits to India and through AID volunteers in India. We also
insist on regular feedback to ensure that we know of the progress
of the project.
3. AID is developing a strong volunteer base in
India. Two of our dedicated volunteers have returned to India
to work fulltime for AID.
4. We have started implementing our long term
plan of Seed Villages and Focus Villages to establish holistic
development efforts in different centers in India.
How you can help:
a) You can contribute your donations to AID; All
donations are tax-exempt.
b) You can volunteer for AID by spreading the
message about AID among your friends or locality: distributing
AID newsletters locally, sending emails to friends, linking
the AID website to popular websites, talking to people at gatherings,
etc.
c) You can attend our meetings (held every saturday
afternoon on campus), contribute your time, ideas and talent
to acheive our goals. The time and venue is available at the
bottom right hand corner of our home page.
I guess this has been a brief introduction to
