AID Chennai
is the head quarters of AID India. AID Chennai is a key
resource group in Tamil Nadu in the areas of primary education, middle
school education and health. Their vision is to bring about a
significant improvement in the quality of life of the poor and
marginalized all over Tamil Nadu. In particular to improve the quality
of education, health, gainful employment and agricultural practices and
to work on the above issues with a secular and equity oriented perspective. |
| Project Summary |
This is the Technologies Intervention component of the AID - Chennai
tsunami Rehab proposal. AID Chennai has a 10-year plan for
rehabilitation of the tsunami affected areas. After the Tsunami hit, AID
Chennai was involved in immediate relief and short term efforts. The
long term rehabilitation component consists of three major components.
- Infrastructure only
- Three year programs
- Ten year programs
The following are areas of long term intervention
- Pre-primary and Primary education
- Middle school education
- Health and Self Help Groups
- Equitec Technology Interventions
- Employment Generation
- Sports, Street Theatre and Youth groups
- Agriculture
AID Austin is reviewing the Equitec Intervention component.
This Intervention mainly comprises of Agricultural Technologies,
Information Technologies, Educational Technologies and
Technologies for Enterprises. |
| Objective |
- Expand use of alternate technologies that help the weaker
sections.
- Provide opportunity to innovate and modify existing
technologies so that it can reach out to the poorer sections.
- Build institutional systems that help the poor access to
more advanced technologies.
- Provide an opportunity to involve a large number of people
the creative space to invent, design and develop technologies
that they find useful or interesting.
