Ashram status to date is... foundation digging is under way, but until 26th of Jan no labourers or masons will start any new constructions.... all raw material will be ready for the start on 26th.... we will organise a block press an start making bricks (these bricks are hand pressed interlocking blocks and require NO firing...) we had taken a number of soil samples from around the site and all look suitable... there is also a coal fired sponge Iron plant nearby which we will look into recyling the waste ash in making the blocks... A green fence has been constructed around most of the Ashram site and the land has been cleared and ploughed for planting... we planned and alocated various beds for vegies , spices , kichen garden and nursery andvarious trees and bamboo, unfortunately the release of the funds taking so much time to clear has meant that we lost a monsoons planting for trees and bamboo, during this time GC staff have been continuing village activites, :SHG IGP's, forestry, farmers groups and health. As the project was originally santiioned in JULY 03 they have taken that to be the project starting date and after clearance of the cheque have repayed to the project start date. this means that the six month first instalment has all but exhausted... GC have seven staff & this project covers only three, as the other two projects had not been santioned, two of GC staff have returned to study and only work part time as the current funds cannot support all... it would definately be appreciated if by the end of Jan GC receive the cheque... I spoke to couple of experienced people in AID Austin [Nishant Jain & Gayathri Manikutty] & they suggested to take the vote in Mid- January as all people will be present that time. Also according to them, it should not take more than 15-20 days to have the cheque in hand for NGO .. > >Pls. let us know if you have any concerns. > >Regards >Rajendra > Pete AID Orissa 7 Apollo Vihar, Neelandri Vihar, Bhubaneswar, India 751 021 Ph: 9437185069
