Peter looked very confident about GC .. * Peter doesn't have details about ProjectA, ProjectB etc ... as he was not involved in those projects. * But most of the projects in my opinion are awareness, technical & other guidence, arranging camps , formation of committees etc ... His general explaination gives a good idea about the projects GC has done in the past. * Main discussion was @ SHG's, IGP's, Farmer's committee, Medical care and interaction between these groups ... GC's role is as said above guidence, arranging camps, forming commitees etc ... * SHG's Fomed by women ... each SHG has 10-15 women & 60 such groups. Each woman contributes @Rs. 10 ;... They generated some money, built the credit and used it to get loan .. At one point they got Rs. 25,000 as loan from the banks & invested in IGP's ... They retuned the money & due to good credit history, got Rs. 1 lakh as loan from the bank .. IGP's ... The SHG's investment is used in various IGP's .. To name a few, they invested in food processing, candle making, agarbatti making , chille powder making etc .. The investment was for buying the machinary like grinders for food processing and other such equipments .. Farmer's commette : GC's role is again in forming, providing guidence, supplying material, marketing etc ... for them .. these farmers grow the local vegetables, fruits etc .. and give it to IGP's as well as sell it in the local & the nearby cities & generate income .. Thus all these are interlinked closely .. They get some help from Gevernment agencies as well ... They also arranged health camps .. with the local Ayurvedic Vaidya's .. Awareness buiding in people about the health issues .. First Aid with the local produce & also distribution of health related material .. Critical cases, interaction with the public health centers. Another point discussed was the significance of the "facilitators of Northern Orissa for "Natural forest resource management" ,.. This is relatively new role ... The key significance is networking & technical experties exchange with similar NGO's .. That will be really useful as they don't have to reinvent the wheel & share BKMs.
