Compassion wherever there is suffering. Conviction that the compassion is strong enough to eliminate suffering. Courage to make this conviction a reality. This is AID.

Project : JanSahyog
State : Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh
Development Focus: Submergence Relief

About the NGO*:  The Bombay Sarvodaya Friendship Centre (BSFC), a Gandhian organization inspired by Vinoba, and the Narmada Navnirman Abhiyan (NNA) are two non-profit organizations in India implementing the Jansahyog relief program in the Narmada valley. They disburse food grains to needy families most affected by submergence, provide sheets for temporary shelters, and medical care and other help as needed.

Summary of Project: The grave situation in Narmada valley where thousands of families are displaced by the Sardar Sarovar dam without rehabilitation, is also a situation of grit and courage where the injustice has not been silently accepted, but challenged vigorously and non-violently. The Jansahyog Relief Project aims to provide food-grains, roofing material for temporary shelters and medical aid to such needy but struggling families by creating a link between those of us in the cities who have running tap water and electricity at the push of a button, with those in submergence villages of the Narmada valley who continue to pay the price for it. It is hoped that this link will bring us closer as people who stand for each other, to forge a path of holistic development that is more humane while addressing the immediate survival problems of the displaced so they can continue their struggle.

Objectives of Project:  The Jansahyog Relief Project aims to provide food-grains, roofing material for temporary shelters and medical aid to needy but struggling families. These families have not received any rehabilitation from the government after they were displaced by the Sardar Sarovar Project.
