State : Gujarat Development Focus: Rehabilitation after earthquake About the NGO*:
SHEDS is registered non-government organization that is
based in Orissa, India. Their main activities include community and
reproductive health care, primary and non-formal education and welfare of
the handicapped. They support several economic generation and self
sustainance programmes in Orissa, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh.
Existing Condtions:
After the earthquake, the NGO performed a survey in
the area of Bhuj and Surendranagar, on number of villages,
affected including the status of infrastructure such as schools and PHCs.
The Bhuj area had about 80% damage reported and Surendranagar had about 15%
impact.
Objective of Project: (a)To provide Relief and Rehabiltation to the families affected by the Earthquake in Surendranagar, Jamnagar and Bhuj. (b) To meet the immediate basic shelter and water needs of 70 villages in the selected areas. (c) To construct schools and provide infrastructural facilities of schools in 70 villages. (d) To provide facilities for the livelihood restoration to 5000 families in the programme area. Requested Budget: $300,671
