Project Swanirvar- Open Learning Center

NGO Information Swanirvar aims create holistic and sustainable alternatives for problems faced by the poor. Work focus areas include education, health, micro financing and agriculture
Swanirvar is an NGO with wide experience in running innovative education programmes for the underprivileged. It was started in 1990 and has since then successfully set up many educational institutions for the underprivileged with the help of other NGOs and the Gov. of India.
Project Summary This project aims at developing an alternative model to existing secondary schools regarding learning goals and targets ( curriculum), methods (pedagogy), materials, learning avenues much more diverse and in conformity to the ideals of sustainable and just society (by the creation and propagation of 2 OPEN LEARNING CENTRES, first one in Kolkata, second in a rural area in North-24-Parganas.)
Objective The Open Learning Center (OLC) aims to motivate children to become:
  • Lifelong, independent, motivated learners
  • Balanced , happy , creative persons
  • Socially-politically-culturally - ecologically sensitive , just, responsible , active humans
  • Youths who are vocationally adept for now and the future.

Eventually the LC is not an alternative school for only the poor, but an alternative mainstream school for all children.
