Social Chair Updates:

  • Midnight Rodeo is tomorrow
    • Meet outside of the SSB at 10 pm
    • Staying until midnight-ish
    • BRING FRIENDS & DANCE! It will be fun =]
  • Tie Dye Tshirt Social
    • Shirts will be coming in the week of October 30
    • 2 socials to tie dye those shortly after
    • We will send out reminders with updates!
  • IM Volleyball - Even if you didn't sign up, you can still come after the meetings!

Service Chair Updates:

  • Mac & Cheese Smackdown!
    • Saturday, October 24
    • SHIFT CHANGED
      • Volunteering from 12-3.
    • Meeting outside the SSB around 11:30 am to carpool
    • At Central Market
    • Helping out with face painting, crafts, and general children's carnival revelry
    • Remember to email 24 hours in advance if you cannot make it!
  • Hotel Toiletries Drive: New donation idea!
    • Accepting small bottles of shampoo, conditioner, etc such as you find in hotels
    • If you go out of town, save them and bring them to an officer!
    • Will be donated to a battered women's shelter
  • Longhorn Halloween Candy Drive: Thank you for donating! Major success! Over 100 bags of candy! Good job, guys!
  • "The Flame" Article Submissions are due October 31st!

Historian Update:

  • If you take 8 pictures, that's one point. You can earn another point by printing out the 8 pictures and dropping them off!

Treasurer Update:

  • Thank you to everyone who came out to Pizza Hut! It was cold, so we really appreciate it! Next fundraiser will probably be at Plucker's. Any other ideas, please send them to us!

National ALD Convention:

  • Officers Madison and Nicole went. It was in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Very fun. Got to go to the Mall of America. Next year is DISNEYWORLD!!, so make sure you become and officer and go!

Career Exploration Center Speaker:

  • Career Exploration Center is in Jester. Open 9-5 M, W-F. It's open from 9-7 on Tuesdays.
  • Complete FREE to enrolled students
  • Help you either work backward (help you find how to get to your ideal career) or forward (help pick a career)
  • Have counselors you can make appointments with
  • Don't do aptitude tests, but rather tests that help find your interests/ your niche
  • 4 Steps:
    • 1) Self-assessment - values, interests, personality, skills
    • 2) Exploration - use of the Texas Exes database, Faculty Connections database -> informational interviews; EUREKA for research opportunties
    • 3) Reality Testing (note: the 'testing' might not be the exact word; it's 'Reality ____') - finding internships and jobs! AccessUT and Hire-A-Longhorn
    • 4) Implementation
  • Have a library filled with books about careers/ comfy chairs. You can even study there if you need to!
