Thanks to everyone who came out to our meeting last night! For those of you who couldn’t make it, here’s what we went over. And remember, you can bring two canned goods to the Honors Center during any officer’s office hours to get your point for this meeting... up until our next general meeting, of course.

ACTIVE STATUS:

To remain active, old members need 12 points per semester and new members need 9. Although active status doesn’t affect your membership in ALDPES, having active status allows you to attend the end-of-semester banquet for FREE and may help you in being selected for scholarships or officer positions.

HOW TO EARN POINTS:

General meetings – 1 point each

Service events – 1 point per hour of service

Social events – 1 point per event

Academic events – 1 point per event

Driving to an event – 1 point (on top of the point you earn for the event itself)

Taking 8 or more pictures at an event – 1 point

PHOTO POINT OPPORTUNITY:

What: 8 pictures of at least 2 group members participating in a service/social event; must be clear photos, and shouldn’t include funny faces or horseplay (we have discretion to accept or reject your pictures!)

Why: 8 pictures = 1 point; maximum of 2 points possible; help make our scrapbook look great!

EXPLORE UT:

When: this Saturday, March 1 (preferably during the 11:30-3:30 shift)

How: Sign up on the Explore UT website: www.utexas.edu/events/exploreut/. Be sure to e-mail aldpes@hotmail.com when you have signed up.

** Note: Regardless of what shift you work or whether you’re volunteering with ALDPES or another organization, have a volunteer form filled out and signed by one of the people running Explore UT (they’ll pass out volunteer forms at the event)

ZILKER PARK KITE FESTIVAL:

When: this Sunday, March 2, 9:00 am-12:00 pm (meet at the Honors Center at 8:00 am)

How: E-mail aldpes@hotmail.com to sign up

** Note: We will NOT be taking the bus to the festival – this means we need drivers! Remember, you get one EXTRA point for driving to an event.

NEXT MOVIE NIGHT:

When: Thursday, March 20, 9:00 pm (meet in the Union at 8:25 pm so we can get in early and get good seats)

What: Atonement – won an Oscar and was nominated for many more!

ALD SCHOLARSHIP REMINDER:

ALD scholarship applications can be turned in through the last officer hour on March 19. Make sure you get yours in on time!

NON-ALDPES REMINDERS:

UHS recruiting peer educators: Students can volunteer in programs that will educate others in either sexual health, nutrition, or alcohol and other drugs. The application deadline for the 2008-2009 school year is March 24. You can find it and other information at: http://healthyhorns.utexas.edu/education/peereducation.html

Fun Fun Sober Run, April 19: A run put on by the UHS to raise money for the Center for Students in Recovery.
