Welcome to the 2008 American Studies Graduate Student Conference at the University of Texas at Austin, “mongrel” america taking place this week, Thursday and Friday, Oct. 2-3, 2008 on the UT campus.

Thanks to all of you who are attending the conference this year, whether as participants or guests, and thanks to all of our generous sponsors.

We are very excited about the richness and diversity of all the presentations on the schedule—I hope that you enjoy presenting and engaging with them as much as the conference committee has enjoyed putting the conference together! We hope that the panels, lunchtime discussions, keynote speaker, keynote reception, and post-conference social will provide many opportunities for all in attendance to learn and grow as scholars, discuss new ideas, and meet others with shared interests.
