Frequently Asked Questions
- I'm a non-student/non-faculty/alumni/just moved into town and I would like to shoot with the archery team, can I? No. UT Rec Sports has very strict rules on this subject. We would love it if we could have alumni and members of the community shoot with us, but we can't. Sorry.
- I have a son/daughter that is interested in learning to shoot. Can you teach him/her to shoot? No. In order to teach them to shoot, we would have to use our facilities and that is against UT Rec Sports rules. We recommend contacting Archery Country JOAD.
- My {insert personal relationship of your choice here} has always liked Robin Hood/Leggolas. I'd like to buy him/her a bow for his/her birthday/Christmas/etc, what kind should I buy? This is a hard question to answer since there are many different answers depending on their true interest in archery. We recommend telling them what you want to buy and take them to an archery shop and check things out. It's very easy to buy the wrong bow and spend too much or too little. There is every thing from less than $100 "chunk arrows in the backyard" set ups to $2000 "I'm going to the Olympics" set-ups. Talk to them, don't talk to us. It'll be better that way.
- I know how to shoot, how do I join the team? Join the club. You're on the team.
- I'm a bow hunter and I'm not interested in competing, can I still join the club? Yes. But we are principally a target archery club. But you are welcome to join and use our range to practice for bow hunting season. You will still be asked to contribute to the welling being of the club by helping out with tournaments and other activities since that is how we earn our money to pay for targets and target butts.
- I don't know how to shoot and and I don't own a bow, can I join? Heck yea! Come on down, we'll teach you how to shoot and we'll loan you some equipment.
