mission
Brothers and Sisters in Christ is an
interdenominational ministry committed to bringing the good news, the
gospel of Jesus Christ to the campus of the University of Texas at Austin.
We commit ourselves to fellowship with Christians from churches many
churches of many different denominations and other Christian organizations
to encourage Christians in their faith and to be a witness of Jesus Christ
with their fellow students.
BASIC in essence is, "to love and seek Christ, to
love and seek others in Christ."
BASIC's purpose is to promote and establish at the University of Texas at Austin a community of men and women who follow and obey Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. This community will focus its effort in worshipping and glorifying the triune God, knowing God's Word and applying His Truth to daily living, and equipping disciples to reproduce the life of Christ in others.
Our commitment to ministry is based on God's Word:
"All authority in heaven and on
earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all
nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of
the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded
you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
" All Scripture is God breathed and is
useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,
so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good
work."
" Watch your life and doctrine
closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both
yourself and your hearers."
Statement of Beliefs
We
believe that all Scripture is the inspired, inerrant word of God, and that
all the Scriptures were designed for practical instruction
(2 Tim 3:16-17).
We
believe in one triune God who exists eternally in three persons -
the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit
(Matt. 28:18-19; 2 Cor. 13:14; Heb.
1:1-3).
We
believe that man was originally created in the image of God, and that
he fell through sin, and, as a result of his sin, lost his spiritual life,
becoming dead in trespasses and sins. We also believe in the total
depravity of human nature, and that every man and woman is born with this
nature
(Gen. 1:26; 2:17; 6:5; Rom. 3:10-19;
8:6-7; Eph. 2:1-3).
We
believe in the full humanity and deity of our Lord Jesus Christ. We
believe in His virgin birth, in His sinless and perfect life, in
His substitutionary atonement, in His bodily resurrection, in His
ascension in which He became head over all things to the church, and in
His personal return in power and glory
(John 1:14-18; 2 Cor. 5:21; Phil. 2:5-8;
Rom.
3:25-26; Heb. 10:5-14; 1 Peter 3:18; Phil 3:20-21;
Eph. 1:22-23; Heb. 7:25).
We
believe that because of universal death through sin, no one can enter in
to the kingdom of God unless born again. Only a new life, which is
the work of the Holy Spirit through the Word is absolutely essential to
salvation. We also believe that our redemption has been accomplished
solely by the blood of our Lord Jesus Christ
(Matt.
26:28; Rom. 5:6-9;2 Cor. 5:21; Gal. 3:13; 6:15; Eph. 1:7; Phil. 3:4-9; 1
Pet. 1:18-19,23).
We
believe that, because of the eternal purpose of God toward the objects of
His love, because of His grace toward those deserving wrath on the ground
of the propitiatory blood of Christ, because of the unchangeable covenants
of God, because of the presence of the Holy Spirit in the hearts of all
those saved, we as true believers, once saved shall be kept saved forever
(John 5:24; 10:28;
13:1; 17:11; Rom. 8:29; Heb. 7:25; 1 John 5:13).
We
believe in the Holy Spirit, the Third Person of the Triune God; who
sanctifies, guides, and empowers all believers
( 1 Cor. 12:4-11; Gal. 5:16-23; Tit. 3:5; 1 John
2:20-27).
We
believe that all who are united to Christ are members of the church
which is the body and bride of Christ
(Rom.
12:5; 1 Cor. 12:12-27; Eph. 1:20-23; 4:3-10; Col. 3:14-15; Heb.
12:22-24).
We
believe that we are called to live a holy life, to not walk after the
flesh, but after the Spirit, and to live in the power of the indwelling
Spirit so that we will not obey the lust of the flesh
(Rom. 6:11-13; Gal. 5:16-23; Eph. 4:22-24; Col.
2:1-10; 1 Pet. 1:14-16).
We
believe that our Lord Jesus Christ commands those He has saved that
they in turn are sent forth into the world as strangers and witnesses, and
that their primary purpose in life is to make the good news of Jesus
Christ known to the world
(Matt.
28:18-19; Acts 1:8; 2 Cor. 5:18-20; 1 Pet. 1:17; 2:11).
We
believe in the resurrection of all men and women to a final judgment of
the great white throne. We also believe in the eternal blessings of
those who have trusted in the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation, and eternal
punishment for the unrepentant
(Matt. 25:31-46; Luke 16: 19-26; 2 Cor. 5:8; Phil. 1:23; 2 Thes. 1:7-9; Rev. 20:11-15).
