Pledge Guidelines

Academic Standing

You must be majoring in biology and have a 3.0 biology GPA and at least 3 hours of upper division biology credit the semester that you pledge TriBeta.

Meetings (5 of 7)

At each meeting, we serve pizza at 6:30 PM and have a speaker scheduled to give a presentation at 7 PM. Before our speaker arrives, the officers will present TriBeta news and reminders for upcoming events. Meetings are every other Monday. Please be sure to sign in at each meeting, as it is the official attendance record.

Dues

You are required to provide a one time fee of $75 to the organization. This money funds pizza and events throughout your membership in TriBeta.

Service Projects (2)

Service projects help TriBeta contribute to the Austin community and are a great way to meet other members. As a pledge, you must volunteer enough time to earn 2 credits or use an "extra" that qualifies as a volunteer event.

Social Events (2)

Getting to know your fellow members (and classmates) is an important part of this organization and definitely the most fun part! If you can't attend two social events, remember you can participate in mini-socials before our general meetings to fulfill one social credit.

Fundraising (2)

The fundraiser money will be combined with the dues to help pay for pizza, refreshments, and events. Many fundraising events are as easy as going out to eat with your fellow Betas!

Banquet

The banquet is the final reward for completing all the pledge requirements. This will be held in December or May, depending on your pledge semester.

What happens then?

Your name remains on the pledge spreadsheet until the end of the semester, but it will be highlighted in bright green to indicate that you are done with your requirements. You’re then eligible for honor chords and invited to our end-of-the-year banquet. Contact the president for more information on honor chords, and remember that this needs to be well in advance of your graduation date (so that we can order them). If you plan to continue in BBB in the next semester, your name will appear on the Active list, and you should sign in accordingly.

**NOTE**

While most members finish pledging in one semester, you have two semesters to fulfill your pledge requirements (above) and become officially active. If you do not fulfill the requirements your first semester, please email the Secretary for information on what exact requirements will need to be fulfilled in order to become active by the end of your second semester. Please clear up any questions/discrepancies with the officers BEFORE the last meeting.
