Our purpose is to develop a sense of community among the graduate students of the African Diaspora at The University of Texas at Austin by addressing the problems and needs which confront the group either individually or as a whole. BGSA serves as a medium to reduce the feeling of isolation by keeping students aware of the activities of other black groups and by structuring social and cultural events in which the members can interact. BGSA also fosters the professional development of its membership.
