Wednesday, November 4th
This week we welcome Jessica Hanover. Ms. Hanover is the director of ATI Bioscience. She is responsible for identifying promising early-stage companies that are developing technologies relevant to medical sciences. She holds a Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of California, San Francisco, and a bachelor's degree in Applied Mathematics from Harvard University.
Wednesday, October 21st
This Wednesday we will have Michelle Leiconte and Brian Faulkner from Barker Botts come talk about their career in law. Here is some information about our speakers:
Michelle LeCointe has an undergraduate degree in Biochemistry from Harvard
University and a law degree from Columbia University. She has been
practicing law at Baker Botts for nine years in the Intellectual Property
group. Her practice focuses on patent and technology-related law in the
life sciences areas. She has helped various clients, including UT Austin,
procure patents and license them to companies interested in developing them
further. She has also assisted her clients in avoiding or being prepared
for patent litigation and in protecting their rights when litigation does
occur.
Brian Faulkner has an undergraduate degree in Chemistry from the University
of Illinois and a law degree from the University of Texas. Prior to law
school, we worked for several years as a chemist at Dow Chemical. He has
worked in the Baker Botts Environmental Law group since graduating law
school four four years ago. He has advised corporate clients on how to
comply with existing environmental regulations, formulate new proposed
regulations, and educate the public and address concerns regarding the
environmental impact of new industrial developments. He has also been
significantly involved in a large-scale safety review of BP's North American
refineries.
Wednesday, October 7th
This week we will have a special guest speaker, Mr. Rafi Baddour, President of Respiratory Research, Inc. To give you an idea of what to expect, here is Mr. Baddour's quick bio and description of his upcoming talk:
* BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, 1988
* Texas Professional Engineer
* Have held engineering design, project management, engineering manager, and executive positions spanning the offshore oil and gas industry, computer hardware, and medical devices
* 5 patents in a variety of fields
* Currently President of Respiratory Research, Inc., a medical device and diagnostics company I founded with a group of physicians
