The Evil Mimes at 40 Acres Fest
Forty Acres Fest, 2000
Last year, The Knighthood of BUH beat the living crap out of a pair of mimes trying to perform for spectators at 40 Acres Fest. This year, the mimes fought back. We had several people planted throughout forty acres fest just like anyone else, and we also had a gang of about 7 mimes. These mimes walked throughout the festival, performing, but then, every 15 minutes or so, they would pick a (seemingly) random person and beat the living shit out of them. This got some crazy reactions from the crowd, as one might imagine. Many people just stood aghast, but one guy, a huge ROTC guy who thought he needed to show everyone how tough he was walked up to me and in his toughest voice said "So, you mimes just fighting people? How about you fight me, then?" I mimed to him that I was tougher than him and would take him out... or something like that, and then mimed "Oh no!" when he picked me up and held me over his head. At about that time he must have realized that I was miming this whole time, and not fighting, and set me down on my feet and walked away without eye contact.
After beating several "innocent" people, we then paraded around being complete assholes. We knocked drinks out of people's hands, tried to start fights, got in the way of a bunch of booths out there, and threw trash at people we didn't know. Hmm, in print, this doesn't sound as funny, but when a mime comes up to a group of people, performs for a second, then knocks drinks out of people's hands and walks away, even the victims couldn't help but laugh at the absurdity.
The finale to the event was when we bumped into Wally Pleasant. Wally is a funny musician who came into Texas to play forty acres fest, and he was well liked by us. Seeing a group of mimes, he offered for us to perform with him on one of his newer songs. So we did.
Yea, it was a damn fun event, and we had some damn good mimes. Most of the event was filmed, but due to technical difficulties, there was no sound. Evil mimes set to surfer music can be seen in episode 3 of the Bastard Squad.
