Hi Everyone,

Welcome to the Asian American Campus Ministry newsletter! We will be keeping you updated on the latest events in AACM and how God is working through us to transform the campus and the world. Please feel free to reply to aacm.iv@gmail.com if you have any questions or comments.

1) 10:2 Advance (August 21) August 21st at 4:00pm in Welch 3.502.
He told them, "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. ~Luke 10:2 10:2 Advance is our first official joint event that we will be having with InterVarsity Jester Mission (IVJM). Leaders and non-leaders of AACM are welcome to come to worship and fellowship together, to discuss the vision that we have for the campus, and to spend time praying for the UT campus. Afterwards, we will all go out to Rudy's BBQ for a time of fellowship and to get a chance to know each other.

2) Evangelism Training (August 22)
Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." ~Matthew 28:18-20 Have you wondered what it means to "make disciples" especially here at UT? Should sharing the Gospel of Christ be something to be feared? Come to the evangelism training to learn that sharing the good news shouldn't be a dreaded task but instead, it is a natural part of our walk with Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit. This will be on August 22nd (Location and Time TBD). Leaders strongly encouraged to attend :)

Remember to sign up for the prayer calendar; there are still some empty spots near the end close to the beginning of the school year. And even more importantly, remember to pray on the day you signed up for and to remind the next person on the list with an email or phone call. More instructions of what to pray for are on the document itself.

4) Mission Blog:

AACM is super blessed to have a good amount of people going overseas for missions this summer. Please support them in prayer and by hearing what they are experiencing in the AACM missions blog (link above). It's a good way to see how God is working in the world outside of our own lives. If you are interested in learning more about their experiences, don't hesitate to ask them. It'll be a huge blessing to them as well.

Urbana is a missions conference hosted by InterVarsity once every three years. Come see how God is working throughout the whole world and how you can be involved! 6) Vision:

"For Christ's love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again. So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people's sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God." ~2 Corinthians 5:14-21

This passage is our theme verse for the upcoming school year. Here are a few key points from the passage:

- Because Christ died for our sins, we have the opportunity to become a new creation in him! - Because we are reconciled to God through Christ, we are now entitled to proclaim this message of reconciliation to the world.
- This shows that God desires to give everyone a chance to repair their severely broken relationship with him in order to make us whole and complete in him once again.

We want to see how God will teach us and use us to live out this passage for the upcoming school year, so please meditate and pray over it.

It was great seeing you guys at Large group this past Friday. I pray Jesus as the vine would take root deep in your heart, you would choose to remain in Christ and be pruned by the Spirit (John 15). It was also great meeting and talking to some of you at Fudd's. Below are some of the upcoming things we have going on, including some prayer items concerning Hurricane Ike.

God has done a lot in the short few weeks of school already. We are planning to have a night of worship and praise this Friday to celebrate those things, including testimonies of things God has done.

Summer Prayer!

Hi everyone! I hope all of you are enjoying your summer breaks!

Although we won't be having AACM events in the summer, we would love for you to join us in praying for all of the InterVarsity fellowships! A prayer list has been made, so that there will be one person praying each day throughout the summer. We definitely encourage everyone to pray each day, but this list will help us keep one another accountable for praying for our fellowship! We invite you to sign up for one day (or more!) and pray with us!

What to Pray for:
1. New Student Outreach: For fellowships to be dependent on the power of the Holy Spirit in reaching out to new students; for events, organization, and for new students to be drawn to IV fellowships through distinct devotion to God, as light of the world (Matthew 5:14-15)
2. Small Group: For small group leaders to start serving God as shepherds of His flock by being examples to those around them: to walk humbly, to be alert and of sober spirit, to resist the devil, and to have an eager heart in serving God (1 Peter 5:1-8)
3. Large Group: For growth in community (spiritually & numbers); for leaders to have clarity & obedience to God's vision; for leaders to allow God to mold the LG culture (Isaiah 64:8); for love in the community that would reach out to new people!
4. Prayer: For fellowships to be an open, accountable, and prayerful community; for fellowships to be wholly surrendered to God through prayer; for individuals to continue praying on all occasions for their brothers and sisters in Christ; to call upon God through prayer for thanksgiving and deliverance; for fellowships to be safe houses of prayer (Matthew 21:13) - and for unceasing prayer, which is God's will for us (1 Thess 5:17-18)

Hey everyone! I can't believe this year is coming to an end so quickly! We have a few things coming up before summer officially begins!

Along with there being a speaker, you can also choose from the following tracks: Following Jesus (Mark 1), Living Witness, Roots, and Small Group Leader Training. These tracks are taught by IV staff and are all really really good. I really encourage all of you to go to RecWeek and invite your friends also!

Hi everyone! I hope you're all doing well and making it through your midterms! From leadership to DVDs to football, we've got some great things coming up!

It's open to everyone - all who are just curious, those that have thought about it many times, and new and experienced leaders in AACM! We will give an overview of the fellowship, all the places you can serve and important future dates. The only requirements to apply for leadership next year are: attendance to one of the info sessions, a humble heart, and a passion to see the Kingdom of God expand through AACM!

"The Showdown," Saturday April 5th
ABSA is hosting a charity girls tackle football game and is looking for girls to play! After signing up for the event, you'll be placed into one of 2 teams, with girls from other organizations. Players will need to find sponsors to donate and support them. If a sponsor donates $10 or more, then the sponsor will get a shirt. All sponsors get free admission to the event, while spectators would have to pay $2 to watch. All the proceeds from this event are dedicated to helping the problem of human trafficking as highlighted by the AACM Talent Show. THIS Friday all of InterVarsity will be meeting together to learn more about Quaerens. You'll get equipped with evangelism training and pumped up for all that God's going to do on our campus! (The room for this event has not yet been finalized, but just come out to Welch, and I'm sure you'll find us!)

2) Quaerens Help! Saturday January 12th to Thursday January 17th, 9am-4:30pm @ Gregory Plaza

3) AACMapella will be performing once again at this year's Talent Show. We hope to put on a great performance, and we are looking for anyone that would be interested in committing to this group. The only requirements are that you have a passion for God, a passion for singing, and a passion for performing. We usually practice for 2 hours, at least every other day, so you must be able to dedicate a lot of your time. We expect you to be responsible with your commitment. This station on social justice is a way for us to engage the students on campus and to let God's light shine through us. At the beginning of this semester, we used this station for the first time and 7 people gave their lives to Jesus and 2 people rededicated! We want to be able to reach out once again in the spring and advance the Kingdom of God!

Hi everyone! Apparently there is a ginormous Forensics tournament going on this weekend, so almost every room at UT is booked.

Therefore, large group for this Friday will be in Belmont 328 . Belmont is on San Jacinto, between 21st and 23rd St. It is connected to the football stadium. Social Justice, Friday November 30th, 7pm @ TBA
As this week is World AIDS Week, Justice Team has been working hard each day over at Gregory Plaza. We have all been learning and teaching others about the impact of AIDS and what we can do to help. We will be learning more about social justice this Friday, so we hope to see all of you there! (Due to testing in Welch, the room for LG will not be announced until later this week. An email will be sent out to notify everyone!)

Happy Thanksgiving!

There is No Large Group this Friday due to Thanksgiving! But, right when we all get back, it will be World AIDS Week (11/26-30, Gregory Plaza). AACM Justice Team has already begun preparing for it, but they need A TON of help! Check out the different opportunities below to get involved!

Tabling
We really need people to help table at Gregory Plaza Mon-Fri from 10am-3pm! We're going to need at least 4 people per hour for 1 hour shifts. If you can sign up for more hours, that would be fantastic! Contact Alyn Punsalan (lopunsalan@yahoo.com) or Tristan Santibanez (t.santibanez@mail.utexas.edu).

Set Up
We need help setting up on Sunday night @ 4pm. We especially need guys with large swole muscles. We need at least 7 people. We also need help setting up Monday morning @ 8am at Gregory Plaza. Contact Janet Ken ( jmken@mail.utexas.edu).

Tear Down
We need major help with tear down on Friday @ 3pm. We'll need at least 15 people. (again, with large swole muscles). Contact Janet Ken ( jmken@mail.utexas.edu).

Concessions

Since there are so many different ways for you to help, and since there is such a huge need for your help, please participate in World AIDS Week with us! ...I can't remember the rest of the poem. But, I'm pretty sure that all of you already know that Thanksgiving is coming up! As you begin planning your Thanksgiving break, be sure to start early by coming to our potluck!

2nd Annual Thanksgiving Potluck, Friday November 16th, 7pm at Episcopal Student Center
Come celebrate Thanksgiving with us! Along with enjoying a thanksgiving feast together, a few students will share what they're thankful for, we'll all participate in an activity together, a slideshow of photos will be shown, and the night might end with some two-stepping!

Since it is a potluck, we hope that all of you will bring a dish! Each class is responsible for bringing a turkey and enough sides and desserts to feed your entire class. Large Group is back! We'll be meeting at RLM again (not welch)! Pastor Dick Lee from FBCC will be sharing with us. Also, Justice Team will be selling baked goods afterwards, so bring a few dollars along with an empty stomach! All proceeds will go to Justice Team.

Programs Team needs your help!
Are you looking for ways to get involved with AACM? Programs Team is recruiting people to help out with set up, clean up, and all of the technical stuff that occurs during our large group meetings (lights, sound, etc). No experience is required to join! We'll train you in everything. Sign up after LG on Friday with Yvonne!

Theatre Action Project - "Peace Cranes," Saturday November 10th, 11am-3pm @ TAP office
We need a lot of volunteers to help fold paper cranes, as we help make Austin a more peaceful community! All of these "peace cranes" will be in a parade on New Year's Eve and then later sent to Hiroshima's Peace Park.
