Austin, TX - Republican Party of Texas Chairman Tina Benkiser came to speak

at a meeting of the University of Texas College Republicans on

Wednesday, February 27, 2004. The Chairman, who often has a very busy schedule,

was able to take a half hour of her time to

address the College Republicans.

Among the things that the Chairman talked about was the growing strength

of the Republican Party, community outreach, the increasing involvement

of young people in the Republican Party, and the numerical voting strength

of young people in the upcoming election.

“We were very happy to hear Chairman Benkiser speak to our chapter.

She has done an incredible job for the Republican Party in Texas,”

said UT College Republicans Chairman Brian Bodine.

The Chairman spoke about ways to get minorities involved in the party through

‘Commuity Outreach’ programs. In addition, the Chairman had emphasized the

importance of young people getting involved in the Republican party,

especially by attending the state convention this year.

“According to the Chairman, people in the 18-25 year old age group are the

second largest voting group in the country, behind the 65 and older group,”

said College Republican Secretary Corey Buckner.

“Getting young people out to vote for Republican candidates is going

to be a major focus in the 2004 election year.”
