Session 1
June 22—July 12, 2009
Session 2
July 14—August 3, 2009

Both sessions offer a choice of two programs:

The Marathon
An UTNIF favorite, this program focuses on improving your debate skills by putting you straight into practice rounds as soon as you arrive. Students begin by working with our experienced teaching staff in small, squad-like groups, having practice debates every night culminating in a full-scale tournament — all by the close of the first week! — $1,600
The Experienced Seminar
For students looking for a deeper relationship with the topic, the experienced seminar offers the chance to develop a comprehensive strategy from scratch with some of our most accomplished staff. With more time available for research, experienced seminar debaters get the chance to build more nuanced and strategic positions, giving them an edge over the competition. — $2,700
The UIL Intensive 1 Week Programs
Our 1 week long sessions are designed to provide students with the arguments and skills necessary to excel on the University Interscholastic League debate circuit. — $650

The Summer Survivors Program

June 22—August 3, 2009

The most intensive program UTNIF has ever offered is back for the third time! Spanning the length of the summer, this unique program follows a separate pace and schedule from the rest of the camp, giving students the flexibility to take full advantage of the time they spend. Led by Jairus Grove (Harvard debate coach, International Relations Fellow at Johns Hopkins University, NDT semifinalist, 2nd speaker at the 2000 NDT, and former director of the Chicago Debate Commission) and Ricky Garner (Ph.D. student at the University at Buffalo, 2003 CEDA national champion, coaching experience at Emory, NYU, Columbia, The Marist School, Stuyvesant High School), participants will be treated as a competitive squad, dividing case and research assignments, completing opposition research and tournament preparation, and learning the methods of collegiate NDT and CEDA style debating. — $5,300

Learn why UTNIF is the best value in debate education around!

Our Cross-Examination/Policy Debate curriculum, headed by Prof. Brian McBride of the University of Southern California, offers programming for everyone from the most experienced and elite debater to the entering novice. See our CX Staff Listings!

FORENSICS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT AUSTIN
Celebrating 125 years!

One of the oldest student programs at the University of Texas, the forensic program was organized on October 5, 1883 as the Athenaeum Literary Society, which established as its ultimate goal the “training and developing of its members in forensics” through “the awakening of a vital interest in cultural and literary pursuits and the discussion and explanation of current problems.” By 1909, the program expanded to pursue national intercollegiate contests by joining the Delta Sigma Rho National Forensic Honorary Society. Archival records show a continuing involvement in collegiate and high school competitions since the 1920’s. In 1988, the University of Texas forensic program split into two separate teams: debate and individual events, sparking UT-Austin’s first involvement with the American Forensic Association National Individual Events Tournament. Each of these teams has continued to attend the AFA National Individual Events Tournament and the National Debate Tournament every year since that time, hosting the NIET in 2008 and the NDT in 2009. Continued participation in intercollegiate forensics at UT-Austin is made possible by support from the College of Communication & Dept. of Communication Studies, the College of Liberal Arts, the UT National Institute in Forensics, and the student population and Student Government of the University of Texas at Austin. We are indebted and grateful to each of these groups for their unending support of this most valuable activity!
