What Is F.L.E.S.A?

Welcome to FLESA, the Foreign Language Education Student Association at the University of Texas at Austin. FLESA is an organization of more than 100 graduate students in UT's Foreign Language Education Program. As a student-run organization, FLESA helps you get the most out of your academic and social experience at the University and may even help you take the first steps to a promising career.

Academically, FLESA introduces you to students and faculty with similar interests, keeps you abreast of the rich flow of ideas that distinguishes our profession, and alerts you to upcoming forums, conferences, and lectures both on and off campus. In addition, FLESA makes its own significant contribution to scholarship through its Texas Papers in Foreign Language Education (TPFLE), a biannual journal with an international readership.

Socially, FLESA holds regular potlucks and evening get-togethers where students, faculty, and families mingle and relax in informal settings. With FLESA you quickly create a circle of friends and acquaintances who add an extra dose of human warmth and sharing to soften the rigors of university life.

Professionally, FLESA keeps you informed of job market activity both in the U.S. and abroad and helps you begin building a network of professional contacts that will sustain your career long after you graduate.

If you are a graduate student in Foreign Language Education, Applied Linguistics, or Teaching English as a Foreign/Second Language, why not join FLESA now? Let's help each other make our future bright.
