Global Medical Training at UT is a student organization that seeks to empower students with the knowledge and awareness of the humanitarian need that exists in the world today by expanding students' understanding of medicine and life outside the United States. We hope to serve as a forum for students who are interested in international medicine, public health, and humanitarian needs. One of our objectives is to also create awareness about the lack of access to healthcare, not only in third world countries but also in the local Austin community. Guest speakers are mostly professionals who have dedicated their time to providing free or affordable health care services to the underserved and uninsured.

Members have the opportunity to obtain first hand medical experience while providing free basic medical services to impoverished communities in Central America and Mexico. Unlike any other organization on campus, GMT gives undergraduates the chance to participate in hands-on diagnoses and treatments with the supervision of medical professionals. We aim to make the experience as easy as possible for new trippers. The organization helps students become acquainted with fellow GMTers, conducts training workshops, obtains medical donations, and offers financial aid in the form of scholarships and fundraisers.

If you are interested in exploring the humanistic side of medicine, this is your chance to become part of an organization that will help you reach your goals. We are Longhorns Without Borders.

"Changing the world... one free clinic at a time."

GLOBAL MEDICAL TRAINING [GMT] would like to have it more widely known that our staff is also experienced with designing and leading customized trips to Central America for dental and veterinarian students...both undergrad and graduate levels.

For a broader experience, we can integrate smaller numbers of students into the medical trip groups...with specific dental and veterinarial procedures, similar to how we integrate non health care students into our medical groups. This has proven to enrich the experiences for the entire group.

Either way, we emphasize a hands on, professionally supervised, learning experience combined with a uniquely enlightening international travel / cultural exposure. Contact us by e-mail to start the process, and check out our website for details.
