AWARDS

OUTSTANDING GRADUATE STUDENT EMPLOYEE

UPDATE: The Office of Graduate Studies has offered to sponsor the competition by offering CASH AWARDS for the top winners in each employment category (TA, AI, GA, RA). OGS will be offering a cash award of $1,000 to EACH of the four TOP WINNERS! This is very exciting news! That is a total of $4,000 in sponsorship -- a very generous contribution to this competition. Special thanks to Dr. Victoria Rodriguez for providing this sponsorship!

Are you an undergraduate who owes their "survival" in a course to a wonderful TA? Or have you ever been inspired by an AI?

Are you a faculty member who relies heavily on a dedicated RA?

Would your office stand still if it weren't for your GA?

Each year, GSA sponsors a competition for outstanding graduate student employees. For most of the history of this contest, awards were given to teaching assistants and to assistant instructors. The awards process has been redesigned recently to include ALL graduate student employees. We added research assistants to the competition in 2003. And we are adding graduate assistants this year.

The Graduate Student Assembly (GSA) is now calling for nominations for outstanding performance by a graduate student employee. The nomination categories are:

Teaching Assistants (TA)
Assistant Instructors (AI)
Research Assistants (RA)
Graduate Assistants (GA)

All nominations MUST be sponsored by a faculty member. If you are a student or staff member who wants to recognize a graduate student employee, be sure to encourage a faculty member to sponsor the nomination!

Each department can submit ONE nomination for each of the categories. Many departments already select an outstanding graduate student employee annually. We encourage you to submit your internal selection to this competition! The GSA Awards Committee will select ONE nomination in each category as the winner of the competition for that category.

The selected nominees will be announced at a reception held in their honor on April 8th, in celebration of Graduate and Professional Student Appreciation Week (April 5-9). All nominees will receive recognition at this time. The top four winners will receive $1,000 each from the Office of Graduate Studies! UT faculty and students are invited to this reception.

Below are links to both the nomination form and the nomination guidelines. The form is to be completed by the nominating party. For details on WHO can nominate and WHO is eligible to be NOMINATED, please review our guidelines.
