C-12 TA/AI Welfare, Rights, and Responsibilities

Sylvia Gale's report on the TA/AI Rights and Responsibilities Committee,
11/12/03, with guest attendee Dean Victoria Rodriguez

1. Tuition Increases: John Dollard expects that the tuition benefit for employed TA/AIs will rise exactly in relation to tuition increases, for those currently enrolled AND those who come in the future.

2. Academic Writing for Graduate Students: Dean Rodriguez is interested in having a wider menu of writing courses available to grad students through the Graduate School (Tommy Darwin currently offers several; look under "GRS" courses). Dean Rodriquez is also interested in eventually having a graduate writing center. In the meantime, she will compile and distribute to departments a list of courses abour writing, for grad students, that are currently offered.

3. Health Benefits: The committtee working on benefits has asked the Mega plan rep to come up with an improved Mega plan. The Cmte is still in information collecting mode, but hopes to have a decision on the plan to put into effect for TAs and AIs who enter Fall 2004 or later by the end of November.
