e-University Steering Committee

Report of Meeting
2003 September 17

The e-University initiative has the goal of trying to identify and implement strategies for using information technology to improve all kinds of university services and reduce costs. www.utexas.edu/e-University

The nature and responsibilities of this committee were discussed and it was generally agreed that it would act as an advisor to the ITCC, Information Technology Coordinating Council, while the ITCC would implement strategies. Even with this delineation, it seems that the line between advising and implementing will remain blurred as the e-University committee seeks to put its ideas into action and the ITCC will likely have ideas and its own vision.

This meeting introduced a new chair, Brian E. Roberts, Associate Dean of the College of Liberal Arts, and a new vision for the committee. Brian is looking to generate more discussion among members instead of having one person give a presentation to the group. The first topic to be discussed at the 10/01 meeting is electronic security. If any graduate students have opinions or ideas on this topic please email your friendly representative, Cheryl at chunco@ece.utexas.edu
