UT PRESIDENT'S
STUDENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE

PSAC

Report of Meeting
2003 July 21

1. Attendees: President Faulkner, Dr. Vick, and the six student leaders of SG, SCC and GSA.

2. Admissions Update. President Faulkner discussed implications of the recent Supreme Court decisions regarding University of Michigan. UT is waiting for guidance from the UT System Board of Regents before addressing the UT approach to admissions.

3. Representation to the UT System Student Advisory Committee (UTSAC). UT Austin will have two representatives. President Faulkner said he would make a decision later in the week who the representatives would be. [He decided that the President of SG would be a permanent representative and the other representative would rotate annually between the SCC Chair and a GSA Co-Chair. GSA will provide the representative for 2003-2004. The representatives for 2003-2004 will be Brian Haley, SG, and Marian Barber, GSA. Rusty Ince, SCC, will be the alternate].

4. Library Hours. SG expressed concern about the reduction of library hours particularly the result that there will be no facility open past midnight. President Faulkner said he would hold his comments until the new Librarian has had a chance to study the situation.

5. Law Suit Against UT Police Department. President Faulkner said UT would have no comments until the legal proceeding has been completed.

6. Tuition Committee. President Faulkner said the makeup of the tuition committee also would be announced shortly.

7. Student Employee Health Benefits. President Faulkner summarized the decisions of the University concerning UT student employee health benefits for TA, RA, and AI student employees. Basically The University has decided that current students will be grandfathered under current provisions at least for a year. There will be no reduction of benefits. This also applies to students entering in fall 2003. The policy for students entering in 2004 is under study. [Vice-Provost and Dean Victoria Rodriguez and Associate Vice-president for Human Resources Kyle Cavanaugh released a joint message to students last week providing the details. A copy was placed on the GSA home page.]

8. GSA Objectives for 2003-2004. Don Drumtra presented the GSA Objectives for 2003-2004 and gave a brief explanation of each.
