Report of
Co-Chair Meeting with Vice-Provost and Dean of Graduate
Studies Victoria Rodriguez
2003 July 17
Co-Chairs Marian Barber and Don Drumtra met
with Dr. Rodriguez for two hours and discussed the following
items.
1. GSA Objectives for 2003-2004. We presented
the objectives for her review and comment after study.
2. Impact of OGS reorganization on GSA.
a. General overview-what is happening (e.g., IE office).
Dr. Rodriguez summarized the reorganization of OGS.
b. GSA advisor -- needed for UT sponsored organizations.
Dr. Rodriguez said she personally wanted to be GSA,s faculty
advisor.
c. OGS financial manager support for GSA. A new advisor
will be appointed.
d. OGS secretarial support for GSA. This will be considered.
e. Office space for GSA. This will be considered.
3. SGCC: what it is. Dr. Rodriguez said the new organization
could be very helpful and said she would support it.
4. Representation of Graduate Students. We
presented an overview of how graduate representatives are
selected in the three organizations, GSA, SCC, and SG. Dr.
Rodriguez agreed the three organizations should work together
in selecting representatives.
a. Three organizations.
b. Standing committees of the General Faculty.
c. Other UT committees.
5. GSA constitution and Bylaws amendment. Dr. Rodriguez
agreed to support the rewrite in general and specifically:
a. Transition of officers. Moving officer transitions
to the end of the spring semester was a good idea.
b. Possible change Co-Chairs to chair and vice chair. No
opinion. Would await our recommendation
c. Administrative changes. UT organizational names and other
administrative things should be updated.
6. Future events.
a. First meeting in September. Dr. Rodriguez would like
to attend the beginning of each GSA meeting.
