GRADUATE STUDENT ASSEMBLY

Co-Chair Candidate

Dear Graduate Students and GSA Colleagues,

I would like to run for co-chair of the Graduate Student Assembly. I feel that I have the knowledge, motivation, and expertise to take on the challenge of co-leading the assembly next year.

My membership in the GSA includes one year as a departmental representative (Educational Administration (2002-2003) and one year as an officer (Electronic Resources Coordinator 2003-2004). I currently serve on the following committees: Constitution and Bylaws Review Committee, Student Bill of Rights Committee, and Students for Academic Integrity Committee. I also regularly represent the GSA at Student Government (SG) and Senate of College Councils (SCC) meetings.

During my time in the assembly, I have had the honor of writing and sponsoring six resolutions on important topics such as international student enrollment, the Student Bill of Rights and Honor Pledge, and graduate student civil rights. In addition, I have successfully drafted two amendments to help update the GSA constitution. As an officer, I have worked with the rest of the Executive Committee to complete tasks such as agendas, the annual budget, and the fall barbeque. I have helped collaborate with SCC and SG on many joint projects including a joint student governance website, the student bill of rights, and the honor pledge.

I would be happy to meet with you all during the next few weeks to discuss where you see the future of GSA and what we can do for next year. Please contact me via email at qball@mail.utexas.edu if you any questions. I hope you will support my candidacy. Thank you all again for your support of GSA and continued efforts to improve graduate education and graduate student life at The University of Texas at Austin.

Sincerely,

Erik D. Malmberg

Doctoral Student
