Special Events Coordinator Candidate

Melissa A. Midkiff was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. She attended the Academy of the Holy Angels, where she graduated Salutatorian of the last graduating class in May, 1992. She was awarded the Decennial Honor scholarship at the University of New Orleans. She graduated with a B.S. in Biological Sciences in December, 1995. She enrolled in the audiology program at Louisiana State University Medical Center beginning August, 1996. At the time of graduation, she received an outstanding student nomination from her department. She gained employment with the Lafourche Parish School Board as an educational audiologist for her Clinical Fellowship Year. After completion of her CFY, Melissa began the doctoral program in the Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders, with a major in audiology, here at The University of Texas at Austin.

Melissa served as a student representative during faculty meetings while enrolled at LSUMC. She also served as the GSA representative for the Dept. of CSD from August, 2000 - 2003. Melissa was elected as the Special Events Coordinator in April, 2003. Since that time, Melissa has coordinated the annual BBQ (August, 2003), an evening bowling event at the Union (October, 2003), and the Graduate Student Appreciation Week Reception (April, 2003). Additionally, Melissa has handled reservations for both the executive committee and general membership meetings for GSA.

Melissa is currently employed full-time at the UT Speech & Hearing Clinic and is working on her research proposal for her dissertation.
