A RESOLUTION

ENDORSING
IMMEDIATE COMPLETION OF BUSINESS PLANNING/FEASIBILITY STUDY
FOR CAR-SHARING
AT THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS CAMPUS
AND FAMILY HOUSING APARTMENT COMPLEXES

Approved October 1, 2001, by unanimous vote of the UT Austin Graduate Student Assembly

WHEREAS a car-sharing service would give faculty and staff working on campus and students living in the family housing and on campus access to a car without having to own and maintain one,

WHEREAS the residential density and transit service on campus and at family housing provide a supportive environment for car-sharing,

WHEREAS the availability of a car-sharing service at the apartment complexes may help attract and retain students because of its financial and time benefits,

WHEREAS the Campus Master Plan recommends a pedestrian campus, and a car-sharing service would reduce the demand for more parking, and encourage faculty, staff and students to use alternative means of travel such as transit and cycling,

WHEREAS the millions of dollars spent on parking garages could be better spent on educational needs ,

WE THEREFORE RESOLVE that the University of Texas initiate and complete a
business planning/feasibility study for starting car-sharing at the UT campus and at the three family housing apartment complexes.
