A RESOLUTION

REQUEST FOR THE CREATION OF A STUDENT MEMBER OF THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS SYSTEM BOARD OF REGENTS

Approved by the GSA on December 4, 2000

 

WHEREAS, the University of Texas System Board of Regents is the governing board of The University of Texas System and administers policies that affect the sixteen component institutions of The University of Texas System.

WHEREAS, the mission of The University of Texas System is to “provide high-quality educational opportunities for the enhancement of the human resources of Texas, the nation, and the world through intellectual and personal growth.”

WHEREAS, student membership is absent from the deliberations of the standing, special and ad hoc committees of the University of Texas System Board of Regents and these committees consider policies of the utmost importance to students of The University of Texas System.

WHEREAS, thirty-one states and the District of Columbia recognize that student representation on the governing boards of their respective institutions is a vital component to the administration of education in an equitable and prudent manner.

BE IT RESOLVED, that the University of Texas Graduate Student Assembly strongly supports and urges the addition of a representative student member, afforded the same rights and privileges of current Board members, to the University of Texas System Board of Regents.
