A RESOLUTION

TO ADDRESS THE REQUIREMENTS AND ISSUES OF THE UNIVERSITY STAFF ASSOCIATION

Approved by the GSA on September 11, 2000

Whereas: The cost of living in and around Austin has skyrocketed in recent years;

Whereas: The salary and benefits of the vast majority of University of Texas employees is far from enough to meet the rising cost of living in Austin;

Whereas: The University has continuously ignored the concerns and appeals of the staff for over three years, despite good faith efforts on the part of the staff to negotiate a resolution;

Whereas: University employees are prohibited by state law from using means such as collective bargaining and work stoppages to meet their goals;

Whereas: In order to succeed in their efforts to obtain a decent standard of working and a safe and dignified working environment;

Whereas: The University Staff Association has put forward a list of seventeen specific reforms they wish for the University administration to address:

Be it Resolved that:

The Graduate Student Assembly urges the university to address the seventeen-point list of reforms issued by the University Staff Association, including but not limited to restoration of insurance benefits, increases in salary, improvements in grievance procedures, and recognition of staff labor organizations.
