A RESOLUTION

CONCERNING WEB COURSE TUITION AND FEES

Unanimously approved by the GSA on April 1 2002

WHEREAS Web courses offered buy the University of Texas at Austin (UT) are a practical alternative to resident courses for students who work and reside away from the university and are therefore increasing in number;

WHEREAS students taking only Web courses are being charged the same tuition as resident students even though they do not make use of UT physical facilities;

WHEREAS the proposed infrastructure fees would nevertheless apply unfairly to such students even though they do not make use of UT physical facilities;

WHEREAS some departments are increasing the fees for Web courses to compensate for the increased burden of Web courses;

WHEREAS other universities in the country are recognizing that ifferent fee allocation structures are appropriate for students who do not use university physical facilities;

WE THEREFORE RESOLVE that the UT administration charter an ad-hoc committee consisting of members of the administration, faculty, and students to provide specific recommendations on how tuition and fees for Web courses should be reallocated.
