Jenõ Dsida was born in 1907 in Szatmár (Satu Mare) as a child of a postal officer. He studied law at Kolozsvár, and also published his first poems at 19 in the local Ellenzék newspaper. During his studies he joined the very active literary circles of Transsylvania, and became a friend and student of Aladár Kuncz, the then famous writer. His first collection of poems was published in 1928 under the title Leselkedõ magány (Lurking Loneliness) in Kolozsvár. The second collection (Nagycsütörtök) was published five years later, whereas the third, and the last (Angyalok citeráján), was published posthumus, in 1938. Besides his poems, this volume also contained many translations from Chinese, Roman, Russian, German and Romanian poets.
