Noah's Pudding
Monday, March 1, 2004
Observing
a Middle Eastern tradition that celebrates the landing of Noah's ark,
volunteers for IDSA prepared a sweet dish called Noah's
Pudding. This was a two-legged event. Of about 1000 servings that
were prepared, 300 servings were distributed at the Gateway Community
Center, and 700 servings were distributed at the UT campus. |

IDSA
volunteers gathered at the Gateway Community Center on Sunday, Feb
29th. The program started with a presentation describing how to
prepare the dessert. We also had a demonstration of the making of
ashure and shared recipes. Following the presentation, people from
different cultures and backgrounds enjoyed the dessert. Most said
that they enjoyed the dessert. The sweetness of the dessert was
reflected in the words and emotions exchanged between the attendees.
A small example of "how sweet it would be to share cultural
diversity" was seen.

On
Monday, March 1st, IDSA opened two tables at the UT Campus; one
on West Mall, and one in front of Gregory Gym. The tables were full
of servings of Noah's Pudding. Students were at first puzzled when
they read "Free Noah's Pudding." Some thought it was a
free sample of a new product. Some enjoyed the dessert without asking
questions. However, the people who asked "Why are you distributing
this?" contributed most of the crowd. "A sharing of our
culture, a symbol of unity, and a gift of friendship" was a
typical answer they got. Thanks go to all volunteers who try to
"bridge the gaps"...
