Exploring Faiths II: Episcopal Faith
Saturday, February 28, 2004
This Saturday, we enjoyed yet another informative lecture in the Exploring
Faiths series. In this second lecture we explored the Episcopal faith.
Reverend Miles Brandon, UT Chaplin and President of the University Interfaith
Council enlightened us on the history, beliefs and structure of the Episcopal
Church.
Reverend
Miles Brandon took us on a quick tour of the history of the Anglican and
Episcopal churches. We began with a look at the times of Henry VIII and
proceeded to the formation of the Episcopal church in the US. We were
informed on a wide array of topics such as the administrative structure
of the church, the basic sacraments, the three-legged stool of Anglicanism,
religious life on campus, and the meaning and importance of interfaith
dialog.
After
the Reverend's presentation, we had an intriguing question-answer session
in which questions about theological concepts, along with matters of the
application of religion to modern life were addressed.
The Reverend also answered personal questions such as how he decided
to become a chaplain and what the Episcopal faith meant to him. Informal
discussions continued throughout the social hour in which refreshments
were enjoyed by all participants.
