UT ISPOR Constitution

I. Name

The name of this organization shall be the University of Texas - International Society of Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research, herein referred to as UT-ISPOR.

II. Mission

The mission of this organization is to:

  1. Provide an environment where students can share knowledge in pharmacoeconomics and health outcomes research.
  2. Serve as a bridge in bringing together students interested in pharmacoeconomics and members of the pharmaceutical industry, health-related organizations, and academia.
  3. Act as a resource for new graduate students interested in pharmacoeconomics and outcomes research.
  4. Provide an opportunity for student chapter members to become familiar with the affairs of ISPOR as well as have representation in its affairs.

III. Affiliation

This society will maintain affiliation as a component chapter of the International Society of Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR).

IV. Membership

Active membership

  1. Active membership shall be open to any undergraduate or graduate student at the University of Texas College of Pharmacy and any other health-related college at the University of Texas at Austin.
  2. Members of the student chapter will be required to pay yearly dues at determined by the membership. Student members will also be required to be members of ISPOR.

V. Organization

  1. The UT-ISPOR executive committee shall have the following officers:
    • President,
    • President-Elect,
    • Secretary, and
    • Treasurer.

    The duties and responsibilities shall be as defined in Article 7.

  2. The UT-ISPOR executive committee officers shall be elected by the active members of UT-ISPOR. Elections will be held in the Spring Semester of each year according to the rules and procedure outlined in Article 8.
  3. The UT-ISPOR executive officers shall hold their respective positions for a term of one year, or for the remainder of a term when filling a vacancy.
  4. A faculty member will be asked to serve as the Faculty Advisor, and will oversee the activities of the student chapter.
  5. A person who is not in good academic standing in the College of Pharmacy shall not be elected to hold an UT-ISPOR office.

VI. Procedures

  1. UT-ISPOR shall be governed by this constitution.
  2. UT-ISPOR shall be a recognized student organization of the University of Texas at Austin. As such, UT-ISPOR shall be registered with the University of Texas at Austin each year.
  3. UT-ISPOR shall hold general meetings during the academic year. Special executive meetings shall be held at the discretion of the executive officers.
  4. A constitutional amendment may be initiated by any member or officer of UT-ISPOR. Procedures for amending this Constitution are outlined in Article 9.
  5. Each UT-ISPOR executive officer or member shall exercise one vote. In the event of a tie, the Faculty Advisor shall cast the deciding vote.

VII. Duties of Officers

President
The President of UT-ISPOR shall:
  1. Conduct and preside over all meetings of UT-ISPOR.
  2. Represent the organization at all meetings of the University of Texas requiring representation.
  3. Appoint a representative to Pharmacy Council and any other student body in the health-related sciences.
  4. Appoint an individual to any office that becomes vacant subject to executive committee approval.
  5. The office of the President shall be open to any active member of UT-ISPOR in good academic standing.
President-Elect
The President-Elect of UT-ISPOR shall:
  1. Succeed to the office of the President upon completion of a one-year term of President-Elect.
  2. Conduct and preside over all meetings of UT-ISPOR in the absence of the President.
  3. Assist the President with assigned responsibilities of UT-ISPOR.
  4. Represent UT-ISPOR at all Pharmacy Council meetings and any other student body in the health-related sciences.
  5. The office shall be open to any member of UT-ISPOR in good academic standing.
Secretary
The Secretary of UT-ISPOR shall:
  1. Record the minutes of UT-ISPOR meetings. An official copy of the minutes shall be kept in the UT-ISPOR files.
  2. Handle UT-ISPOR correspondence as necessary.
  3. Keep and maintain the files of UT-ISPOR.
  4. The office shall be open to any member of UT-ISPOR in good academic standing.
Treasurer
The Treasurer of UT-ISPOR shall:
  1. Keep and make available to the members of UT-ISPOR, the faculty of the College of Pharmacy and faculty at any other health-related college a record of all monies received the spent by UT-ISPOR.
  2. Report the financial status of UT-ISPOR at meetings.
  3. Assist the President in the preparation of an annual budget.
  4. Oversee the financial activities of UT-ISPOR.
  5. The office shall be open to any member of UT-ISPOR in good academic standing.

VIII. Election Procedures

  1. The executive officers of UT-ISPOR shall be elected by the active members of UT-ISPOR. Each member of UT-ISPOR is entitled to cast one vote for the individual he/she deems best qualified.
  2. Elections will held during the first scheduled meeting in April.
  3. Members may nominate other members or self-nominate themselves for any available office.
  4. Results will be determined by a count of hand. Nominees may be asked to leave the room while votes are being counted. In the event of a tie, the faculty member will cast the deciding vote.
  5. The terms of the executive officers elected during the Spring semester will not officially commence until the first day of the upcoming Fall semester.
  6. The President shall inform the Dean, the Faculty Advisor, and UT-ISPOR members by written notice of the newly elected officers for the upcoming Fall semester.

IX. Amendments

  1. Constitutional amendments may be proposed by any member of officer of UT-ISPOR.
  2. A proposed amendment to this or a new Constitution shall become binding after receiving a two-thirds majority of the total voting membership of UT-ISPOR.
  3. Any proposed amendment, together with the part of the Constitution affected, shall be made available to the members of UT-ISPOR at least one week prior to the election.
