About the UT Judo Club
The UT Judo Club is part of the Division of Recreational Sports at the University of Texas at Austin.
We always welcome new members — any skill level, any time.
We expect to have 30-40 men and women working out with us this semester.
We have people of all sizes on the team, from under 100 lbs to
over 220 lbs. UT Judo is also home to several nationally
ranked athletes. The club attracts many foreign students; we have had people
from at least 7 different countries throughout our existence. We work out hard
and have fun too!
Membership dues for the club are $35 per semester. For insurance purposes,
the club also asks that its players join the governing body for judo in
the US — USAJUDO. The annual fee
is $30 for new members. In addition to great workouts and top quality instruction,
club members get a team t-shirt and club booklet. Several coaches volunteer in our club including Chris Ulcak (Nidan), Patrick Schneider, and Omar Zapata.
Beginners will need a Judogi (Judo uniform) which can be purchased through
the club for $50 or bought at a variety of locations. A pair of loose
sweats are acceptable if you just want to check judo out once or twice before
spending the funds on a gi. TaeKwonDo/Karate uniforms are unacceptable for
Judo.
Please stop by one of our practices if you're
interested in joining the team — we're very informal and love to have
people drop in. Or, you can get more information through our club's president at UTJudo@gmail.com or our coach —
email Chris at Chris_ulcak@hotmail.com
