UT Marathon Team Information

Welcome to the UT Marathon Team website.
We're glad you're interested in the Team, and we hope this page will help you learn more about us.

    History

The UT Marathon Team is the oldest and largest recreational running club at the University of Texas at Austin. In February 1999 the Team's founders, Tim and Karthik, completed the Motorola Austin Marathon for the first time. Hoping to share the joy of running a marathon, they formed the Team to bring together aspiring and veteran marathoners in the UT community to train with and motivate each other. Since the Team's inception, our members have completed 112 marathons and ultramarathons. Forty-nine members finished their first marathon along the way.

Runners.

    Statement of Purpose

The role of the UT Marathon Team is to:
1 - Help UT students, faculty, and staff reach their goal of finishing a marathon
2 - Provide support, motivation, and guidance in the training process
3 - Reduce the barriers to a positive and successful experience
4 - Match members with partners or groups of similar running ability
5 - Inspire members of the University of Texas community to run

    Team Activities

We hold regular runs in groups divided by pace, guided by pace group leaders. Although we do not provide coaching or professional advice, we do direct our members to such resources as necessary. The main goal of each season is to run the Motorola Austin Marathon in February. We also run several training races leading up to that Marathon, as well as other marathons and races. We help to organize and volunteer at the Running of the Horns 5K in April. We have social activities once in a while, too.

    We are Runners

We are men and women from almost every slice of the University of Texas at Austin community. Freshmen running alongside professors. MBAs running alongside studio art majors. Life-long Austinites running alongside exchange students. What links us together is that we are all runners.
We like to run. If you like to run, run with us.

    Distance vs. Speed

Former couch potatoes, recreational runners, and cross-country superstars - all are welcome.
It doesn't matter how fast you can go. It's how far you want to run. Our philosophy is that anyone given enough time and discipline can go the 26.2 miles. No previous running experience is required.
You want to run a marathon? We want to help you realize that goal - at any speed.
