Guess what? It's the Persian New Year! And we're bringing it in in style.

For those of you who thought the MECC was sleeping, join us for food, drinks, dancing and music! Come on, we all know you don't study on Thursdays!

Bring your iPod and dabke your heart out to your favorite Arabic, Persian and Turkish singers. This event is potluck, so bring your homemade baklava or Turkish coffee.

Anyone is welcome, so bring friends!

Taos Co-op is an off-campus dorm, and you will need a member to let you in, so please call Katy, Amanda or any of the MECC officers to come get you at the front door!

Subject: Recruitment: Job Talks

Dear All,
Greetings!
The next couple of weeks will be a very intense period for DMES, as we will be hosting six candidates for positions in Modern Arabic Literature and Hebrew Linguistics. I would like to invite you all to meet with the candidates and interact with them, for the hiring decisions will impact the future of the Department in the years to come. I am attaching a list of the six general job talks-- I would like to encourage you to attend as many talks as you can and request that your students attend as well, particularly if the talks take place during a class period and you can require attendance. The time conflicts are inevitable, but your input and the input of students are critical to the success of the hiring initiative. I would appreciate your support in this matter!
Best, and thanks,
Esther
