Weekly Activities
Besides events, the MSA remains active throughout the semester by holding various weekly activities on different days. You can find an overview of some of these activities here. The most recent updates can be found either on the Home page, or by joining the activity's Facebook group.
Cookie/Iftaar Halaqas
The main event of most weeks for the MSA. At these weekly group discussions, MSA members contribute their thoughts and feelings on different Islamic topics. Halaqas will also usually have a speaker to share their knowledge with us and moderate the discussion. Refreshments, such as cookies and milk, are served after each Halaqa. The halaqas during Ramadan include an iftaar as well.
Day: Every Friday
Time: 7:30 PM
Location: Usually Texas Union Eastwoods’ (Room 2.102)

Tafsir Class
We read the Qur'an everyday but do we really understand what we are reading? Do we know the stories or meanings behind the ayahs? To learn the history, stories, meanings behind various surahs and ayahs, join us every Thursday at 8 pm on the 5th floor of the Union. Imam Islam will guide us through the tafsir of the Qur'an, inshAllah.
Imam Islam is an Austin native who graduated from UT and is now the leader of the largest mosque in Austin.
Day: Every Thursday
Time: 8:30 PM
Location: Texas Union 5th Floor (MSA Office area)

Sahaba Talks
The Sahaba - who were these men and women around the prophet (pbuh)? Do we really know who they were? What were they like? Why should we even care? Is there any benefit for us today from studying their lives hundreds of years ago?
Every Tuesday, students from the MSA gather to discuss the answers to the questions above. Each week, someone will lead and moderate a discussion about a certain sahabi or sahabiya whose life contains lessons that we can draw from and incorporate into our own.
If you'd like to volunteer to lead the discussion, contact Utbah Masud at utmsa.education@gmail.com
Day: Every Tuesday
Time: 6:00 PM
Location: Texas Union 5th Floor (MSA Office area)

Around UT
Student Union 5th Floor AKA The MSA Office is where you’ll find many Muslim students hanging out or relaxing between classes throughout the week. The MSA organization office is also located on the 5th floor (hence the nickname). Come on by and say salaam to your brothers and sisters. To get to the 5th floor, take the elevator in the Union up to the 4th floor and then take the stairs directly ahead of the main elevator to the 5th floor.
Nueces Mosque is the student mosque located on west campus, within walking distance of UT. The Nueces Mosque Executive Committee work closely with the MSA throughout the year. The Mosque conveniently provides two khutbas each Friday to accommodate for students’ schedules. The First khutbah begins at 1pm, and second starts at 2pm. The Nueces Mosque website can be found at: http://nuecesmosque.com/. The address is:
1906 Nueces Street,
