Tragedy at Fort Hood
November 6th, 2009 00:03
The MSA endorses the below statement issued by CAIR:

“We condemn this cowardly attack in the strongest terms possible and ask that the perpetrators be punished to the full extent of the law. No political or religious ideology could ever justify or excuse such wanton and indiscriminate violence. The attack was particularly heinous in that it targeted the all-volunteer army that protects our nation. American Muslims stand with our fellow citizens in offering both prayers for the victims and sincere condolences to the families of those killed or injured.”

Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families during this difficult time.

8th Annual Fast-A-Thon!
October 15th, 2009 05:03
The 8th Annual Fast-A-Thon will be held on October 22, 2009. Students, faculty, and people outside of the UT community volunteer to fast, abstain from food and drink, for one day and are brought together in the evening to break their fast and enjoy a dinner in the San Jacinto Multipurpose Room. For each person that fasts, up to $1 is donated to Capital Area Food Bank of Texas, our beneficiary.

The purpose of this event is twofold. First, Fast-A-Thon increases awareness amongst students about hunger within the Austin community in hopes to raise money to help those in need. Second, Fast-A-Thon builds bridges and narrows the divide between diverse groups of people by uniting those of different racial, social, and religious backgrounds in support of a good cause. This event fosters a sense of community and promotes interfaith and interracial harmony.

You can find more information at the event page.

FLASH MOB
October 15th, 2009 00:37
Assalamu Alaykum EVERYONE!

It's coming down to the grind! Come and participate in MSA's FIRST FLASH MOB!

This is how it's gonna go down TODAY (10/15/2009). Everyone will show up around 12:10 PM to the MAIN MALL. If you got a Fast-A-Thon shirt yesterday at the Publicity Blitz WEAR IT! If not we'll be handing the shirts out tomorrow. If all else fails were your Texas MSA 2010 Shirt!

The passing period is at 12:15 PM so we'll be getting into place spread out throughout the main mall in 4 clusters of about 5 to 6 people (really depends on how many people end up showing up!)

Everyone keep a lookout for Zignat (VP). When the time reaches 12:20, she's gonna blow her whistle and every one who opted to freeze will freeze in some position or other with handbills readily available for any passer-bys. We'll have 4 or 5 people walking around with clipboards getting people who are walking by to sign up to pledge for Fast-A-Thon.

Make sure to get there at 12:10 so this works, we need yall to be there on time and ready to hold out the handbills and clipboards so people can pledge for Fast-A-Thon!

Insha'Allah we'll be doing the same thing NEXT TUESDAY in WEST MALL (not main mall like today). We're gonna be taking pictures and filming this so if you're camera shy let us know and we won't have you recorded.
