Community Outreach

One of our most important functions as the Muslim Students Association is giving back to the community that has given us so much both Muslim and non-Muslim. Through helping those in need, we can come closer to Allah (swt). We have various opportunities for attaining ajr and making a difference. Though we have continuous opportunities, MSA will host one big project a month, insha'Allah.

Ongoing Opportunities:

Masjid Keepers:
Have some free time on Jummah? We're looking for two volunteers to commit to going to the mosque 30 minutes before Jummah prayer (around 12:30) to help make sure the place is in working order. We want to work with our mosque to make sure it is clean and comfortable for everyone. This job would entail vacuuming, making sure we have the proper supplies, turning on the lights, etc.

Refugee Tutors/Mentors:
There are many Muslim refugee children in the Austin area who are in dire need of educational assistance and counsel. The range in age from 8-18, and have varying levels of English speaking skills. Though previous experience and knolwedge of other languages (Pashto, Urdu, Farsi) are helpful, it is not required. Whether you just want to play football with the young boys once a week, or meet with them regularly to assist them with their homework, please let us know if you're interested. There's always something you can do.

Peace Elementary Assistant Teachers
Austin's full time Islamic school can use your help in providing Muslim students with a wholesome, well-rounded education. No experience is neccessary, but this is great for students who would like to pursue a career in education. The position will require you to assist the teacher in her classroom on a regular basis, though we can work with your schedule.
