WHO
WE ARE
The
Nritya Sangam Indian Dance Troupe is a not-for-profit University of
Texas organization committed to serving its community through its passion
for Indian classical dance and its philanthropic spirit.
We were
founded in 2002 by a couple of students who shared a love for the art
form.
The
phrase “Nritya Sangam” means “unity of dance,” which is fitting for
the troupe, whose members represent a diverse array of schools and styles
of Indian dance.
In
addition, each member of the troupe is an experienced dancer, carrying
years of extensive training under the instruction of their
respective teachers.
WHAT WE AIM T0 DO
Dance, to
keep up with an art form and talent we have spent so many years
cultivating, and to preserve our age-old culture and
traditions.
Expose the mainstream community to the richness and
depth of an art little known in America through performances on
campus, as well as around Austin and other parts of the state. The troupe
performs traditional pieces from its collective dance repertoire, and
choreographs original fusion and contemporary pieces.
Serve as ambassadors of traditional Indian fine arts
on campus since the troupe is the only Indian classical dance group
at the university and is sponsored by the Dean of the College of Liberal
Arts.
Give back to our local and international community
by organizing, choreographing, arranging, and putting on two major benefit
performances per year in which all proceeds go to a
designated charity.
