Why should you join Omega Phi Alpha?
Lifelong Friends
As a member of a sorority, you will have the opportunity to meet other girls of various backgrounds with both similar and different interests. Within our chapter, there is a close bond of friendship and sisterhood. The idea of sisterhood is the principal foundation upon which any sorority is built and from which you will receive the greatest benefit.
As an Omega Phi Alpha sister you will form friendships unlike any found in other organizations. No OPA sister is exactly alike. By choosing to become a member of OPA, you will meet sisters who grow to become your closest friends, those who will cheer you on when you're successful and who will support you when the going gets tough. From this unbreakable support system you can easily branch off into other areas of college life, knowing all the while that your sisters will be behind you no matter what.
Fundraising & Philanthropies
Omega Phi Alpha has their own philanthropy events each semester which we raise money for. This is done through service weeks, including our fall semester National Service Week, and our spring semester AIDS Week, which helps fund for the Keep A Child Alive Foundation. Other organizations attend, to support the cause by donating money and participating in the event.
Academics
The academic portion of your university career is one significant determinant in your future success. A primary purpose of Omega Phi Alpha is to encourage and develop high scholastic achievement among its members. Within OPA, there are older sisters who are involved in a wide variety of colleges and departments. You will be able to seek help from others who may be taking or have already taken the same classes, and there will be sisters who can advise you on which classes and instructors are the best within each college department.
Leadership Positions
Being in a sorority provides ample opportunities to gain officer positions, allowing you to acquire skills and add to your ever-growing resume for those "real-world" jobs. Positions range from the obvious President, Vice President and Treasurer, to anything in between. There is a job for everyone, which will help you get involved within Omega Phi Alpha, preparing you for your future endeavors.
Networking with Alumni
A huge part of being in Omega Phi Alpha is not just about the current or future sisters, but the generations before us that helped shape each and every part of our sorority. Each semester, allumni are asked to come to an Alumni Social, to reconnect with the new sisters and tell their stories. Our sisters range from doctors to lawyers, to all in between. These sisters have great stories on their time at UT Austin, and can give you advice on life after college relating to any of their respective fields. |
