10/8/2003 First Event: MOVIE NIGHT!

We're having our first event of the semester on Thursday Oct. 16 at 6:30PM, a Movie Night! Full details are on the Events page. We will be showing American Chai in RLM 4.102. And the best part is it's FREE! So everyone is welcome to come. And tell your friends to come too. This is just a fun way for us to get together with the students, get to know you, and more importantly, let you guys get to know us! Hope to see you all there!

9/9/2003 New semester, new members, new ideas

Pratham Austin has started meetings again. Anyone who is interested in getting involved, feel free to attend our weekly meetings. They are every Monday's at 8PM at the Asian Culture Room in the Texas Union on the UT campus. Looks like we have a lot of new people who want to get involved which is going to be a big help to make this semester successful. We'll be discussing what events we wish to hold this semester in the next couple meetings so if you have any suggestions, please let us know.

6/30/2003 Gala Night Success

This is a much needed update. First and foremost, thanks to everyone who made this years Gala Night a successful event. It took a lot of planning and attention to detail to make the night go smoothly and the committee's hard work was clearly evident. Special thanks to Sachin for working with the OMNI to provide a perfect venue. Hopefully, this will be the first of many Gala Nights at the OMNI downtown. All of us at Pratham Austin would like to thank Yogi Patel, Waheeda Rehman, and our other special guests. The message of Pratham is strengthened through your resolve. Thanks to Nritya Sangam dancers Asha and Miyura for the beautiful performance as always. And last but certainly not least, thanks to all of our guests for showing interest in Pratham and, of course, for your generous donations. Final numbers for this years donations are still being calculated but we will certainly post our success when we find out. Pictures from Gala Night are on the Pictures page.

5/17/2003 RSVPs for Gala Night

We have people from as far away as San Antonio and Houston coming for our Gala Night. Make sure all of you send in your RSVPs today to reserve your spot at the festivities. This is our big event for the year and we urge all of you to really show your support by joining us that night. RSVP ONLINE HERE! I know there are a lot of students who are here in Austin this summer, we have the special student discounted rate just for you. It was thanks to a large number of students that we had such a successful Gala Night last year. Please help us once again. Hope to see you all there.

4/27/2003 Surabhi Radio Program talks with Pratham Austin

Surabhi is a radio program that comes on 91.7FM every Sunday from 5-6pm. They play old and new film songs and let Indians in Austin know about upcoming community events. They were kind enough to let us come on the show this past Sunday to get the word out about Pratham. We can't thank them enough for the opportunity and we wish them continued success with their show. If you don't already, make sure you listen in every Sunday at 5PM on 91.7FM.

4/26/2003 40 Acres Fest and Barsana Dham Mela

Pratham Ausin had a busy weekend. We had a booth at 40 Acres Fest where we put mehndi for visitors. It was a lot of fun and hopefully it helped get the word out about Pratham. We also had a booth at Barsana Dham for their Mela. Thousands came out to enjoy the festivities and we were lucky enough to talk to some of them about Pratham and our upcoming Gala Night. Remember folks, it's on May 30th, RSVP today!!

4/21/2003 Gala Night on May 30th, venue finalized!

Pratham Austin's 2nd Annual Gala Night will be on May 30th at the Omni Hotel downtown. There is limited seating so reserve your seats now, click here to RSVP online or call (512)335-9164. 4/21/2003 Faculty Luncheon

Last Thursday, we had a faculty luncheon to give UT faculty a chance to learn about Pratham. We'd like to thank those that were able to make it. We appreciate their feedback and hope for a continued positive relationship between faculty and Pratham. One suggestion that came up at the luncheon was to provide a feedback forum here on our website. We'll try to implement that in the next couple weeks so look for that and let us know what you think!

4/14/2003 Pratham Austin Wins ICA B-ball Tourney

ICA's b-ball tourney was this past Saturday. There was a good turnout and we had a lot of fun. After the dust settled, Team Pratham was the last standing! Thanks to all who participated and especially to ICA for organizing the event. We hope you'll have another one real soon to give us a chance to defend our title :)

4/1/2003 ICA Basketball Tournament

ICA is holding a 3-on-3 basketball tournament next weekend at Clark Fields. It's $4/individual (they'll find you a team) or $10/team. At least one member of your team must be a girl. You can sign up at the ICA table on the West Mall. Contact vkhara@hotmail.com for more information. Proceeds go to Pratham so come out and have fun. We'll be there so come say hi and get schooled on the finer points of basketball :)

3/31/2003 Thanks to Nritya Sangam

We would like to thank Nritya Sangam for generously donating the proceeds from their two dance performances to Pratham. They were both wonderful shows and we wish them luck at Texas Revue. Everyone remember to vote for them this year! Texas Revue will be on the main mall on April 10th at 8pm and in Bass Concert Hall on April 12th at 7:30pm. Go to their website for ticket info.

3/26/2003 Second Nritya Sangam Dance Performance this Sunday

For those of you who couldn't make it to the first show, you missed a great performance. But no worries, you have another chance to see this amazing dance troupe perform. The second (and last) show is this Sunday, March 30 at 7pm. It will be at the Clay Pit again. If you still need convincing, check out the pics from the last show on the Pictures page.

3/9/2003 Nritya Sangam Dance Performance on March 22

Nritya Sangam will be hosting a dance performance and they have generously decided to donate all proceeds to Pratham. Check out the Events page for details. We have heard great things about Nritya Sangam and they have helped many non-profit organizations in the past so let's show them how much Pratham appreciates their support by attending their wonderful performance.

3/4/2003 Flute Concert Pictures

The Flute Concert with Pandit Ginde and Raja Banga was this past Sunday. It was a wonderful performance and we had a great time. 2/25/2003 Flute Concert

Pratham Austin is hosting its first event of the year this Sunday March 2nd. We're having a Flute Concert performed by Pandit Ginde. Check out the Events page for details. Show your support, as always, the funds go straight to the kids who need it most.

2/24/2003 New Website

We finally gave our website a much needed update. We figured we might as well give it a new look while we were at it. Who knows when we'll end up touching it again :) But seriously, we are going to really try to keep this thing up to date from now on. Please feel free to contact us with comments and suggestions.

2/19/2003 A-Frame

We finished building our A-Frame and it's situated in the West Mall in front of the UGL. We're so proud of it, check out that solid construction and fantastic paint job. We'll keep posters and flyers of our upcoming events on it so check back from time to time to see what's up.

1/28/2003 West Mall Table

We've made the big time! We finally got a table on the West Mall. We're out there everyday from 11am to 1pm. So stop by and say hi next time you're in the area. We'll have information on all of our upcoming events and we'd be happy to answer any questions you might have about Pratham. Most importantly, this is the first student chapter of Pratham so we'd love to hear any suggestions you students have about how we can make Pratham Austin more successful.
