Volunteer working directly with the dogs and cats or assisting potential adopters with their search for a new furry friend.Volunteers must attend an orientation.
Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation
After a brief two-hour orientation, which includes a cool tour of the entire sanctuary, you can help out by feeding baby birds, squirrels, rabbits, deer, sheep, goats, etc. If you're lucky, you can help with the snakes and iguanas, exotic and predatory birds, sugargliders, among others.
Rural Area Veterinary Services
RAVS provides free spay/neuter/vaccination clinics for underserved communities in the U.S. and Central and South America. It's truly a trial by fire, as you're thrown into a hectic clinic environment, and they expect you help in whatever capacity you're comfortable. There is always plenty of work to be done in intake, induction, anesthetic monitoring, recovery, and checkout. It's challenging work, but very rewarding.
Thundering Paws Animal Sanctuary
No-kill, non-profit cat sanctuary with 100+ wonderful cats who need good homes. Help with adoptions, cleaning and socialization.
International Service Learning
Pre-veterinary programs in Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Panama, Guyana, Belize, Mexico, Uganda and Tanzania. Costs range from $765-$1985 plus airfare. Financial aid and academic credit may be available. Check out their flyer here.

Austin Pets Alive! is a non-profit corporation organized into divisions, with one or more vice presidents over each division. Each division presents volunteer opportunities for the members of Austin Pets Alive! to contribute in significant ways to the No-Kill Millennium campaign.

Work with both cats and dogs, provide foster care, help keep facilities clean or even donate when volunteering for this no-kill animal shelter. Orientation and additional training is required for some of these activities.
