Research Opportunities
As an interdisciplinary field, public health is a combination of several areas of study. Consequently, research opportunities related to public health are dispersed throughout the UT campus. This means there are many opportunities for you, but they can also be hard to find! For example, the Biology and Chemistry departments lean toward the laboratory science part of public health. On the other hand, the Sociology and Geography departments study the social and environmental side of population health. Also, the Kinesiology department works on disease prevention techniques in the health education program. Other opportunities can be found in the School of Nursing, School of Social Work, and the LBJ School of Public Affairs.

UT¡XAustin Population Research Center
The PRC is an interdisciplinary research unit of UT that is composed of faculty from Sociology, Geography, Anthropology, Economics, and LBJ School of Public Affairs among others. Several faculty from the PRC study the demography of health issues in the US and around the world. The Center also has a successful Research Experience for Undergraduate (REU) program held in the summer. The REU program hosts eight select students from around the country to have the opportunity to work with a faculty member and produce a scholarly paper to be presented at a regional demographic conference.
